Enhancing cosmic shear with the multiscale lensing probability density function

چکیده

ABSTRACT We quantify the cosmological constraining power of ‘lensing probability density function (PDF)’ – one-point weak lensing convergence maps by modelling this statistic numerically with an emulator trained on w cold dark matter cosmic shear simulations. After validating our methods Gaussian and lognormal fields, we show that ‘multiscale’ PDFs measured from multiple levels smoothing offer considerable gains over two-point statistics, owing to their ability extract non-Gaussian information: For a mock Stage-III survey, yield 33 per cent tighter constraints clustering parameter $S_8=\sigma _8\sqrt{\Omega _{\rm m}/0.3}$ than correlation functions. Stage-IV surveys, achieve >90 S8, but also Hubble energy equation-of-state parameters. Interestingly, find improvements when combining these two probes only in set-up; scenario contain all information standard statistics more. This suggests while are currently complementary, lower noise upcoming surveys will unleash PDF.

The Galaxy-galaxy Lensing Contribution to the Cosmic Shear Two Point Function

We note that galaxy-galaxy lensing by non-spherical galaxy halos produces a net anti-correlation between the shear of background galaxies and the ellipticity of foreground galaxies. This anti-correlation would contaminate the tomographic cosmological weak lensing two point function if the effect were not taken into account. We compare the size of the galaxy-galaxy lensing contribution to the ch...

Intrinsic alignment-lensing interference as a contaminant of cosmic shear

0556-2821=20 Cosmic shear surveys have great promise as tools for precision cosmology, but can be subject to systematic errors including intrinsic ellipticity correlations of the source galaxies. The intrinsic alignments are believed to be small for deep surveys, but this is based on intrinsic and lensing distortions being uncorrelated. Here we show that the gravitational lensing shear and intr...

A new probability density function in earthquake occurrences

Although knowing the time of the occurrence of the earthquakes is vital and helpful, unfortunately it is still unpredictable. By the way there is an urgent need to find a method to foresee this catastrophic event. There are a lot of methods for forecasting the time of earthquake occurrence. Another method for predicting that is to know probability density function of time interval between earth...

Probability Density Function Measurement

We report experimental results on the acceleration component probability distribution function at R λ = 690 to probabilities of less than 10 −7. This is an improvement of more than an order of magnitude over past measurements and allows us to conclude that the fourth moment converges and the flatness is approximately 55. We compare our probability distribution to those predicted by several mode...

Beating Lensing Cosmic Variance with Galaxy Tomography

I discuss the use of cross correlations between galaxies with distance information and projected weak lensing dark matter maps to obtain a fully three dimensional dark matter map and power spectrum. On large scales l . 200 one expects the galaxies to be biased, but not stochastic. I show that this allows a simultaneous solution of the full 3-D evolving galaxy bias and the dark matter power spec...
